For Immediate Release, December 7, 2010

Contact: Kassie Siegel, 011-951-961-7972, ksiegel@biologicaldiversity.org

Media Advisory: Frostpaw the Polar Bear Available for Comment and Photos at Cancunmesse, Hall C

What: The Center for Biological Diversity’s Frostpaw the polar bear will be available for interviews and photographs. Frostpaw will be accompanied by Kassie Siegel, director of the Center for Biological Diversity’s Climate Law Institute.

When: Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 12 noon (Cancun time)

Where: Cancunmesse, Hall C (Open area near side events counter)

Background: As the Arctic rapidly warms, polar bears are declining toward extinction and have become an icon of the threat climate change poses to plants and animals around the globe. Failure of the international climate talks to secure science-based emissions reductions to limit atmospheric carbon dioxide to below 350 parts per million and temperature increase to below 1.5 degrees C (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) will drive the polar bear extinct and threatens millions of human lives and the survival of entire nations.

Siegel and Frostpaw will offer their analysis of the negotiations so far in Cancun, including the need for far stronger U.S. action.
